Employee Spotlight: JC Mahan

Do you go by any nicknames?

I think everyone knows me by J.C. – most don’t know it is short for James Clay though.


What is your role here at Babb, Inc.?

I do a little bit of everything, but my title is Operations Officer.


Where did you go to school? (High School, trade school, college, etc.)

High School – Seton LaSalle

Undergrad – Bethany College (BS – Mathematics)

Grad School – Waynesburg University (MBA)


Where are you originally from?

I was born in Wichita Falls, TX but raised in Pittsburgh, PA with a short one-year stint (5th grade) in Metuchen, NJ.


How did you get your start in the insurance industry?

I started with a consulting firm doing analytics for Executive Benefit Plans – Non-qualified deferred compensation funded with COLI (corporate owned life insurance).


What’s one of your hobbies?

I love the game of soccer, so I play and coach.


What’s the last good book you read?

“Rising Strong: The Reckoning. The Rumble. The Revolution.” by Brene Brown

“Legacy: What the All Blacks Can Teach Us About The Business of Life” by James Kerr


Tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I have been dubbed a knight.


If you were a superhero, what would your super power be?

I would like to have every super power, why settle for just one?


What’s your favorite part of working at Babb, Inc.?

I love our mission to help people.


What Hogwarts House would you be sorted into?

I don’t think I want to be around pigs with skin conditions…


What was the first concert you went to?

My first concert was 3rd Bass at Graffiti in Oakland.


What is your favorite place in the world?

Anywhere with my wife and kids.


What is your favorite movie? TV show?

Movie:  A River Runs Through It

TV Show:  English Premier League Soccer

What color crayon would you be and why?

Black, mostly because when I would use crayons, I always used the black crayon to outline everything. It tidies everything up and makes it look good.


If you could be any animal what would it be and why?

A dog, because I would like to be someone’s loyal companion.


Do you play any instruments?
Mostly air drums and air guitar, but sometimes I enjoy air scratching of the turntables.
