Step Challenge Check-In With Alex
You may not know this, but this is my first Step Challenge ever! I can’t express enough how awesome, motivating, and rewarding it is for me to have a new goal to reach every day. I was excited about the step challenge concept when I was made aware of it, but I became even more excited when it officially kicked off. It’s hard to put into words the feeling I felt once it started, but it really motivated me to get my steps in knowing that it is a competition. I am always checking into SparkPittsburgh to see where Babb, Inc. and I are at in the standings. I am constantly pushing myself to continue moving so that I reach my steps each day and push towards not only my goal but our team goal!
During the week, Monday through Friday, I walk for 45 minutes on my lunch break and then I walk at home after work. I have been improving and continuing to push myself to reach my step goal every day by doing this. No matter the temperature or the weather that day, I do it! NOT walking is NOT an option for me! The one day on my lunch break I got caught in a rain storm and came back to work completely soaked, and it was all worth it because I got exercise, I pushed myself to keep going, and, all in all, it made me feel better about myself, on top of adding steps to my daily routine. The weekend can be difficult for me, but I know if I continue to stay positive and push myself, I will be able to get my steps in during the weekends too. This allows me to push myself harder during the week because the weekend can become a challenge to hit my goals due to being busy with family, friends, and, of course, watching Football on Sunday!
The Step Challenge has been a positive influence for me as it is pushing me to reach a GOAL and making me apply myself more each day versus being lazy and not getting daily exercise. My wife even joins me on these after work walks to help me reach my goals! There is no excuse for me to not reach my daily goal of 10,000 steps or even exceeding my goal. It is such a great feeling to feel like you have accomplished something good for your health each day.
I have found myself looking at SparkPittsburgh to see the standings more than I do at any social media site and that’s a really good thing because my health will benefit from it. I will definitely continue to strive for more steps, each day, even after the Step Challenge! My goal for everyone out there is to challenge yourself, purchase a Fitbit or other wearable device, and begin exercising each day to reach your personal exercise and step goals. I promise it will make you feel 10 times better, both mentally and physically!
