Meet Our Step Challenge Spokesperson: Sharon Penberthy

Hello, my name is Sharon.  I am happy to be a spokesperson for this year’s SparkPittsburgh Step Challenge and to represent my company, Babb, Inc.  I work as an administrative support person for our Sales Department.  I’m into my 25th year with my company and have enjoyed participating in many of our wellness platform initiatives in the past and newly generated ones, such as the SparkPittsburgh Step Challenge.

I was an extremely busy working Mom of 4 children which kept me constantly on the go.  I now have 8 grandchildren to dote on and to also give me the mindset to keep myself energized and healthy so I can be an active part of their lives in the years to come.  I love to take vacations at the beach and while there, enjoy long early morning walks with my husband.  When I’m not at the office, I enjoy working in my yard whether it’s mowing grass, raking up leaves, or keeping weeds out of the garden plants.  These are pretty routine chores, but it’s all exercise to me and keeps me active and moving.  Walking our dog Lucy around North Park is also one of my favorite things to do and it benefits my husband and myself as well as her.

It’s inevitable that families grow up and our own pace slows down.  We all notice things about ourselves and our bodies as we age and I am no different. I read a long time ago that walking is an excellent overall exercise, so I started a routine of trying to walk on my lunch time at least 3 days a week and trying to incorporate a longer weekend walk.  I’ve found that doing something as simple as walking has so many benefits and works well for me … it’s easy, it’s good for me, it doesn’t cost me anything, I can do it just about anywhere … and it makes me feel better to know that I am doing something good for “me”.

I am looking forward to participating in the SparkPittsburgh Step Challenge once more this year.  Along with my own personal daily goals of the challenge, being part of a Team is a strong motivation to continue to encourage others to be active and keep moving on a daily basis no matter what age you are!  Get UP!  Step UP!
