Be Smart. Eat Smart.

By Caroline West Passerrello, MS, RD, LDN is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, National Spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and Owner of Caroline West, LLC.

Quoting a previous post by Jonathan M Bernstein, “If we shift our thought process to an enhanced strategy and get away from “something additional”, the benefits far outweigh the costs.”  That mindset can also apply to your Physical Well-Being.  All too often clients tell me they ‘know what to do but just can’t do it’ or that they ‘can’t imagine adding something else to their routine’.  These phrases give me an insight into what a client is thinking.  Through our coaching process, the client will uncover the specific thoughts holding them back and we will work together to develop strategies to successfully reach their Physical Well-Being goals.

When meeting with a registered dietitian/nutritionist many people, maybe you included, expect to talk about how many calories a specific food has, or to analyze food logs.  Guess what?  That happens, but it’s not the focus because it is often ‘something additional’.  What we will do is look at your current lifestyle and health goals and discuss ways to enhance your physical well-being strategy so that you make smarter choices with a greater return.  A meal plan, food log, and/or activity tracker may be just the tool you need to stay accountable – but it should enhance your strategy and not divert you from your goal or cause you more stress.

Future blog posts from me will likely include topics such as meal planning, label reading, mindful eating and the latest ‘nutrition trend’.   I want to be sure that what I am providing is useful to you, will enhance your physical well-being strategy, and will not feel like ‘something else you have to do’.  If you would, please take a few minutes to read the statements below and really think about them.   Then, let me know which statement resonates the most with you so I can deliver content you can put to good use!

Please select the 1 statement that resonates the most with you.
