COMMERCIAL AUTO - PERSONAL USE

If you have a commercial auto policy and as an Officer of a company, have your vehicle titled in the corporate name... and have no other personal insured autos elsewhere, you have personal lines exposure that may not be covered.

Drive Other Car Coverage is a form used to provide coverage for named individuals, which eliminates the exclusion present in most commercial auto policies. Drive Other Car Coverageprovides that equivalent of personal auto liability coverage to a commercial auto policy. It covers the named insured and family members for use of non-owned private passenger autos in addition to providing named insured status of a spouse. Whereby, he or she does not need the named insured’s permission before driving a covered auto.

The bodily injury to employee exclusions that exists under the business auto policy is removed with the use of this endorsement. It provides bodily injury coverage for the employees of a family member residing with the insured as well as for employees of the named insured. Also, the endorsement extends coverage for property damage caused by the legal liability of the insured using a private passenger auto.

Any private passenger auto not owned by persons named in this endorsement is considered a covered auto with respect to physical damage while the auto was being used by the insured. This endorsement is needed when a person is furnished a business auto and that individual does not personally own and insure a private passenger auto.

This is a heads up for those of you who may have vehicles titled in your corporate name.
